Gurf Morlix gets a jump on the New Year with MELT INTO YOU, his latest collection of handcrafted songs. The album contains tunes that look at the quirky side of love (Switchblade Smile, Spare Change, Melt Into You) as well as the melancholy and downright sad (Beautiful Sad Face, Nothin’ Burns Like the Cold, In the Name of Love.) The remaining three songs are philosophical in nature---(Last Days of the Dinosaur, Sand, A Meaningless Life)---making metaphorical observations with both humor and warning.
Instrumentation is what you would expect from Gurf Morlix, meaning you should expect the UN-expected. There's a similarity in song writing between Richard Thompson and Hugh Cornwell which maybe isn't surprising as they went to the same school at the same time, although Thompson is older. Due to Thompson's association with John French of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band I searched for his work on the Bandcamp app. French, Thompson and Cornwell all have albums on the app which I'm very pleased about.
